Calling all bug enthusiasts in Grades 5-8! Explore the importance of insects through the use of hands-on activities, science demonstrations, and field trips. Campers will learn all about entomology from experts in the field, go on adventures around campus, learn how to collect and care for insects, and end the week learning about entomophagy while tasting treats!

The Alabama Museum of Natural History Bug Camp will be held from June 21st – June 25th from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM each day.

Bug Camp Daily Topics
Day 1: What is an Insect?
- Campers will:
- Make an insect collection
- Learn how to ethically collect and preserve insects
- Pinning and labeling methods
Day 2: Interacting with Bugs Outdoors
- Campers will:
- Go on an insect scavenger hunt
- Learn how to be involved in scientific research through Citizen Science
Day 3: Live bugs in the Lab
- Campers will:
- Experience bugs from our Bug Room
- Learn how to care for insects
- Entomophagy Day – Make and eat treats made with bugs
Day 4: Pollinators
- Campers will:
- Learn what a pollinator is
- Taste and judge honey
Day 5: Careers in Entomology
Campers will:
- Hear from an expert in the field
- Learn about different careers in Entomology
