The Alabama Museum of Natural History will be co-hosting Haunting at the Museum with the Gorgas House Museum on October 24-28, 2022.

The Alabama Museum of Natural History will have lighting by 2L7’s Lyndell McDonald and provide spooky scavenger hunts during the week of October 24-28. Museum visitors are also encouraged to attend our after-hours event on October 26 from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm. to celebrate Halloween with spooky children’s stories, crafts, mad scientist experiments, and more!

Schedule

  • 5:00-7:30 pm: Crafts and activities in the Grand Gallery
  • 5:30-5:45 pm: Ages 0-5 Costume Contest
  • 6:00-6:15 pm: Ages 6-13 Costume Contest 
  • 5:15, 5:45, 6:15 pm: Story Time in Room 114
  • 6:00-7:00 pm: Big Al Visit
  • 7:00-7:30 pm: 14+ Costume Contest

Admission

The after-hours event on October 25 is free for all.

During the week of October 23-27, general admission is $5.00 for adults, $3 for K-12 students, and free for children 5-years-old and under. Families with kids in costume are free during the week.

The museum is located in Smith Hall on the University of Alabama campus. The street address is 427 Sixth Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487.

Directions

From Birmingham: Take Interstate 20/59 S to Tuscaloosa exit 73, McFarland Blvd. Head West on McFarland Blvd toward the University of Alabama. Exit right onto University Blvd. Follow University Blvd to Hackberry Lane. Make a right onto Hackberry Lane and turn into the second parking lot on your left behind Smith Hall (yellow brick building).

From Montgomery: Take Hwy 82 W to Tuscaloosa. Exit right onto University Blvd. Follow University Blvd to Hackberry Lane. Make a right onto Hackberry Lane and turn into the second parking lot on your left behind Smith Hall (yellow brick building).

Parking

Parking on October 25: Parking on The University of Alabama campus will be free to the public during the after-hours event on October 25 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. There are parking lots behind Smith Hall and Lloyd Hall, and next to the Math and Science Education Building. Check out UA’s online map of campus for more parking options.

Parking During the Week: There are five dedicated visitor parking spaces in the lot behind Smith Hall that can be accessed from Hackberry Drive. Upon arrival, once you pay for admission, you will receive a parking pass receipt that will entitle you to free parking in our museum visitor parking spaces. In addition, there is a parking deck located at Campus Drive and Hackberry Lane. The cost for visitor parking in the deck is $1 for the first hour and $2 for each additional hour.  To reach the parking deck, take Hackberry Lane to Campus Drive East, and the parking deck is on the right.

Public Transportation

The Tuscaloosa Trolley runs from the city’s downtown parking deck to campus.
