Fossil Excursion

Fossil Excursion, formerly Shark’s Tooth Creek Fossils, is one of the museum’s most popular summer field trips. We travel to the Black Belt of Alabama in search of vertebrate and invertebrate fossils from the Cretaceous Age. Bear Creek Canoeing

Splash through class I and II rapids on a five-mile stretch of river flowing through northwest Alabama near Haleyville. Enjoy your picnic lunch on the rock bluffs at Factory Falls and watch as other canoeists float through the rapids. Swimmers only. 16 spaces available – $30/person *Please note that all participants age 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult for all summer programs. To register, call 205-348-7550.

Little Cahaba River Tubing

Float on an inner tube down a shallow stretch of the Little Cahaba River and splashdown rapids below limestone outcroppings. Enjoy a leisurely, wet day observing nature, eating a picnic lunch on a sandbar beach, and taking a swim at Limestone Park. 16 spaces available – $30/person *All participants age 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult for all summer programs. For this year's Haunting at the Museum, visit the Alabama Museum of Natural History from October 25th - 29th to see 25 grave stones indicating extinct mussels from Alabama, including their description and extinction dates. The Buzz About Bees

A new exhibit is flying to the Alabama Museum of Natural History. The Buzz about Bees is a collaborative exhibit with the Alabama Museum of Natural History, the West Alabama Beekeepers Association, and the UA Bee Club.
