Fossil Excursion, formerly Shark’s Tooth Creek Fossils, is one of the museum’s most popular summer field trips. Splash through class I and II rapids on a five-mile stretch of river flowing through northwest Alabama near Haleyville. Enjoy your picnic lunch on the rock bluffs at Factory Falls and watch as other canoeists float through the rapids. Float on an inner tube down a shallow stretch of the Little Cahaba River and splashdown rapids below limestone outcroppings. Enjoy a leisurely, wet day observing nature, eating a picnic lunch on a sandbar beach, and taking a swim at Limestone Park. 16 spaces available – $30/person *All participants age 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult for all summer programs. For this year's Haunting at the Museum, visit the Alabama Museum of Natural History from October 25th - 29th to see 25 grave stones indicating extinct mussels from Alabama, including their description and extinction dates.
