Come join us for a night of astronomy on November 21! Families with children in grades K-5 are invited to visit the UA Observatory with the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Alabama Museum of Natural History. Families will enjoy a short presentation followed by a viewing at the observatory and a craft!
Crustaceans in ancient cold seeps
Cold seeps are spots in the oceans where fluids such as methane and hydrogen sulfide escape from the bottom of the ocean into the water column. Such places harbor bacteria that extract energy from these gases with or without living in symbiosis with invertebrates such as clams and tubeworms.

Trackways of ancient animals inhabiting a swampy area during the coal-age in what is now northern Alabama have been known for nearly a century, but they were nearly forgotten for a long time.
Haunting at the Museum Event
The Alabama Museum of Natural History will be hosting a FREE Haunting at the Museum event on October 26 from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm. The Museum will have lighting by 2L7’s Lyndell McDonald to celebrate Halloween with spooky children’s stories, crafts, mad scientist experiments, and more!

George Martin to receive the Alabama Avocational Paleontologist Award
Alabama has a fantastic fossil record and many important fossils have been discovered by avocational (amateur/hobby) paleontologists. In 2020, a new award was created by The University of Alabama Museums honoring an avocational paleontologist who has made substantial contributions to paleontology in Alabama.

Marble Bowl
This year, to excite everyone’s inner scientist, an Alabama Cooperative Extension System expert aims to bring the gridiron competition of the Iron Bowl into the realm of citizen science. Dubbed the Marble Bowl, this unique contest allows Auburn and Alabama football fans to compete all season in their local ecosystems.
